Best described as group therapy for lawyers, our workshops are customised for your team. Here are some (un)basic workshops to get you started.
We do a variety of peptalks designed to help lawyers:
reignite their passion for the law,
remember why they became lawyers,
find their purpose (ikigai, or whatever),
figure out better ways of working as individuals or a team,
get real about having fun (a.k.a. finding joy) at work, and,
think about the future and shit-hot trends in legal services.
We have trained hundreds of lawyers on how to ditch the legalese and become more effective communicators. In our courses, we cover how to:
use an understanding of human psychology to inspire people,
create human-centered communication,
write in plain language,
apply basic design principles,
employ practical exercises to transform legal opinions, B2B contracts, terms & conditions, privacy notices, policies (and other compliance documents), pleadings, affidavits, PowerPoint presentations, correspondence, emails ... you name it, we show you how to make it enjoyable to read.
Legal design is very hot right now. But what is it really? It’s just a collection of techniques lawyers can use to solve wicked legal problems. We hold workshops for beginners and master classes for the old hands on:
legal design and other cool problem-solving techniques,
cultivating empathy with your ‘users’,
learning how to experiment and accept being ‘less wrong’,
practical tips, tools and tricks we use when we do legal design,
analysing real-life case studies and examples of legal design, and
applying what you have learnt on your own projects.
Lawyers are not known for being popular. You know, we don’t get invited to parties (or meetings for that matter), but it doesn’t have to be that way. The pinstripe death march is a choice. In these courses we talk to lawyers and in-house counsel about:
how to find out who you are, and do it on purpose (thanks Dolly Parton),
authenticity vs belonging and finding the right place for you,
swearing, tattoos and why nothing is unprofessional (disclaimer: we won’t try to convince you to like swearing or tattoos),
creating a personal brand and why it is important,
writing things the people you need to sell to want to read (content marketing),
how to close the deal with confidence, and
bad lawyer habits that are probably getting in your way.
‘My clients are so annoying. They never do what I say!’ ‘The business ignores my advice (when they ask for it in the first place)!’ These are complaints we hear from lawyers all the time. The bad news is that if you can’t make something important interesting, that’s on you. In these courses, we talk about the magic of change management and:
shutting up,
learning to listen,
falling in love with the problem you are trying to solve,
not being the killjoy by doing some risk management,
what legal advice should be and different ways to communicate it,
understanding how decisions work and how to manipulate (or inspire) people to make the right one.
If you don’t care about having happy, healthy lawyers at your firm, you should. Burnout, presenteeism, bad lawyering, high turnover. These problems are all bad for the bottom line. In these work sessions, we talk about:
the cold hard facts about the cost of a shitty work culture,
busting myths about burnout (and rest),
the impact of different business models on different personalities,
collaboration is the cure,
how to spot signs of trouble, and
how to get from wiped out to well, or how to nudge employees to look after themselves and each other.
